Hi everyone,

I can't find a straight answer to this question and I can think of no better place to ask!

I have software raid0 array to which I'd like to add a disk and make it a raid5 array to protect me against a (single) drive failure.

Supposedly the RAID Reconfiguration Tool can be used to make this change. Has anyone successfully done this or used this tool? Is this worth considering?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Mmm.. can it really convert RAID0 to RAID5? Sounds dubious to me.

Not that it's impossible (or even very difficult), but somewhat improbable that anyone with the skill to do it right would even bother to write such a program!

Cheers

However: it is very likely that there are serious bugs that will destroy your data, possibly even on disks not related directly to the array you are re-configuring.

Really a shame it has such a warning, when hardware array cards have no such need for similar warnings when doing RAID level migrations or expansions.
